Mr. Banie’s practice focuses on resolving intellectual property and business disputes, particularly through litigation. In addition to handling patent disputes, Mr. Banie has experience handling trademark, copyright, trade secret, trade dress, defamation, invasion of privacy, and Internet-related claims. He also has extensive experience representing clients across a wide array of industries in business and commercial disputes involving, among other things, claims of breach of fiduciary duty and fraud claims. Mr. Banie is experienced in all aspects of preparing and litigating cases through trial, including pre-lawsuit investigation, formulating litigation avoidance strategies, managing all phases of discovery, retaining and working with experts, engaging motion practice, and preparing trial-related filings.
Before joining Pranger Law PC, Mr. Banie was a patent litigation consultant for Ruckus Wireless, a manufacturer of wireless networking equipment for enterprises and service providers, where he supervised many of the company’s patent-related disputes. He also practiced litigation at a boutique intellectual property firm, and before that, practiced intellectual property and business litigation at the global law firm DLA Piper US LLP. In addition to law firm experience, Mr. Banie trained as a research attorney at the Santa Clara Superior court and taught U.S. law at the University De Deusto in Bilbao, Spain.

Mr. Banie is admitted to practice in all California State Courts, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States District Courts for the Northern District, the Central District, the Eastern District, and the Southern District of California. Mr. Banie is permitted to and has appeared pro hac vice in United States District Courts in other districts across the nation.
In addition to his appreciation for wine, Mr. Banie enjoys hosting and attending cooking parties and barbeques. He’s an avid sports fan and enjoys hiking, and in particular, exploring foreign cities on foot.
Mr. Banie has a keen interest in serving the community through teaching and pro bono work. Over the course of his legal career, Mr. Banie has successfully represented victims of predatory lending against mortgage brokers and creditors. He has also assisted members of the San Mateo community to obtain guardianships to help care for under aged family members in need. David received Certificates of Recognition from the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo for “outstanding pro bono services to low-income residents of San Mateo.” In addition, David received a firm wide award for his outstanding pro bono service at DLA Piper US LLP.
